Crockett and his men went after a group of about 46 Creek holed up in one structure. Before they had time to react, a Creek squaw drew her bow and shot an arrow, killing one of the volunteers. It was the first time Crockett had seen someone killed with a bow and arrow. Rage ensued as Crockett described the scene: We now shot them like dogs; and then set the house on fire, and burned it up with the forty-six warriors in it.
