Within a week of losing his job at Penn, Sebo agreed to accept a three-year contract as general manager of the Titans. His announced salary was $25,000, a substantial increase from his coaching income.

Charles C. (“Cash and Carry”) Pyle, best known as the agent for Red Grange, started the first AFL in 1926. Pyle, like Hunt and Adams, had been frustrated in his attempts to obtain an NFL franchise and formed his own nine-team circuit, featuring Grange and former Notre Dame stars Elmer Layden and Harry Stuhldreher, two of the legendary Four Horseman. The first AFL lasted only one season, but Pyle achieved his original goal, as the NFL absorbed his New York Yankees. Two other AFLs had brief lives, one from 1936–37 and the other from 1940–41.
